All-Dutch podium in the first stage of the UAE Tour Women. At the finish line in Dubai Harbour, after 149 kilometers, European champion Lorena Wiebes wins, leaving Charlotte Kool (Team Picnic PostNL) and Nienke Veenhoven (Team Visma | Lease a Bike) behind; immediately after the podium, Irish rider Mia Griffin (Roland) finishes fourth, while Rachele Barbieri (Team Picnic PostNL) ends fifth. The 21-year-old Sara Fiorin (Ceratizit) is eighth.
119 athletes start at 12:45 local time. The first twenty kilometers are ridden in a compact group, then the breakaway by Linda Laporta, 25-year-old from BePink - Imatra – Bongioanni, generates the first escape of the day: joining the athlete directed by Walter Zini are Cristina Tonetti, from Laboral Kutxa - Fundación Euskadi, and the Dutch rider from Roland Sylvie Swinkels.
This trio leads the race for a long time, the first Intermediate Sprint goes to La Porta followed by her two companions, while the peloton led by Pauline Ferrand-Prévot (Team Visma | Lease a Bike) is reported almost 2'00" behind. The advantage increases and at the 100 kilometers to go marker, race radio reports that the leading trio is traveling with a 6'00" advantage over the group, which becomes 7'30" in a few kilometers. The second Intermediate Sprint is won by Cristina Tonetti ahead of Sylvie Swinkels and Linda Laporta, with the group still 6'00" behind.
In the last 55 kilometers, the group increases its pace, significantly reducing the deficit, but shortly after a massive crash, it slows down the chase again.
Approaching the finish line, SD Worx - Protime and Team Picnic PostNL take control of the chase, neutralizing La Porta's action 10 kilometers from the finish; while Tonetti and Swinkels were forced to surrender with 3 kilometers to go.
At the 2 kilometers to go marker, Elisa Longo Borghini set the pace, leading the UAE Team ADQ train, Guarischi and Lach launched the sprint for Wiebes.
