The world of cycling mourns Donato Giuliani, who passed away at the age of 78. Born in Spoltore in 1946, Giuliani was one of the most genuine interpreters of cycling in the '70s, an era when effort, passion, and talent merged on often dusty and challenging roads.
A determined professional, he carved out a prominent place among the greats, winning important stages at the Tour de Suisse and Tour de Romandie. He participated in seven editions of the Giro d'Italia - with a brilliant 14th place in 1971 - and two Tour de France, challenging the sacred monsters of his generation.
After ending his competitive career, Giuliani remained faithful to his first passion: cycling. As a sports director and organizer, he put his experience and heart at the service of young talents and race promotion. His commitment to the Trofeo Matteotti, a historic Abruzzo event that for years brought the best Italian and international riders to Pescara, was unforgettable.
At the family level, they also managed a renowned sports equipment store "Giuliani Sport". A frank and passionate figure, Donato Giuliani leaves behind the memory of a man who lived cycling with total dedication, never sparing himself, both inside and outside the races.
The funeral will be held on Sunday, April 27th at 3:30 PM in the Parish Church of S. Agnese in Pineto.
To his wife Maria Pia, son Cristian, family members, and all those who loved him, goes the moved embrace of the entire sports world.
