From horse racing track to cycling park. From four-legged horses to two-wheeled horses. Ravenna is preparing for a mechanical and human metamorphosis to transform the E' Tond, it's round, the Candiano, a sand track over 800 meters in the Darsena neighborhood, into an equipped area not only for cycling but also for roller skating. An facility dedicated to the youngest, where they can start pedaling and continue to practice safely, without the dangers of traffic.
To help support the expenses, particularly those intended for a mountain bike and cross area, here comes "Cyclasy" (a synthesis of "cycle" and "fantasy"), 14 cycle-artistic works by Luca Barberini, an exhibition promoted by the Ravenna Cycling Association in collaboration with the Ravenna Tourism Service: from tomorrow until May 4th, in Ravenna's via Zirardini, open-air (just as the Bike Park will be). The works will be for sale and 50 percent of the proceeds will serve to finance the two-wheeled operation.
Forty-four years old, from Ravenna, a mosaicist, Barberini marries art to the bicycle. Because the bicycle is movement, light, colors. Because the bicycle is life and - from Picasso to Duchamp - art. Because the bicycle is also the territory's history, from Guglielmo Malatesta, the first Ravenna native at the Olympics (in 1908 in London) and the Giro d'Italia (in 1909), to Luciano Sambi (winner of the Giro di Toscana in 1965 and today a cycling and city historical reference point) up to Andrea Collinelli (Olympic gold in pursuit at the Atlanta Games in 1996), from the Rinascita societies to Pedale Azzurro.
The bicycle as inspiration ("Freedom, first of all"), the bicycle as mobility ("I live and work in Ravenna's historic center, but when I move with the van, I park and then get on the bike"), the bicycle as therapy ("Running and mountain bike, alone or with friends, better in the hills, just to feel good"), the bicycle as fascination ("The style, the design..."), this time Barberini dedicates to the bicycle all his attention and commitment: "Via Zirardini is no longer a place for political poster postings but open to works of art. Mine have been photographed and enlarged, thus displayed, twenty-four hours a day for thirty days, the originals visible only tomorrow from 6 pm at the inauguration". The bicycle as a message and messenger. Also of peace.
