It was a historic day for the Italian Professional Cycling League and the entire movement of our country, which today literally landed in Brussels at the European Parliament headquarters. In the presence of regional council representatives, President Roberto Pella presented the Regions Italy Cup project, which was received with great enthusiasm, especially by foreign spokespersons.
Two-time world champion Gianni Bugno was also present to applaud the Italian initiative, along with the President of the Committee of the Regions, Kata Tutto, who was enthusiastic about the initiative and wanted to personally congratulate the entire organization. "Sport is part of my daily life, it's a way of living, and I believe all political representatives should find a way to include sport in their programs," explained President Tutto. "Sport helps resilience, and cycling is the perfect testimony of this. It is a symbol of absolute connection. Sporting competitions connect people, and cycling in particular manages to bring people out onto the streets to cheer for their champions, all together, sharing something special. We can say that cycling is also a symbol of democracy: everyone participates in the same game, runs on the same route, and receives the applause of fans. That's exactly what makes it so wonderful."
A distinctive feature of the Regions Italy Cup is the goal of inclusivity, which has led the organizers to focus not only on women's races but also to provide equal prizes for women and men. "Cycling and sports in general, beyond the usual economic and tourist aspects, are strongly linked to health. Doing sports is good, and everyone should practice this type of activity. Cycling is inclusion, and the Regions Italy Cup is the perfect example of this. It demonstrates that progress has been made in gender equality. This competition guarantees equal prizes for men and women, which is an important factor that should not be underestimated, but rather emphasized and encouraged. It is fundamental that institutions support women, especially those involved in sports," concluded President Tutto, who promised to follow the competitions from afar and opened a window for potentially expanding the project. And at this point, the question becomes more than spontaneous: what if a European cycling cup were to be born in the future? It's still too early to talk about it, but for now, let's enjoy the success of our very own Regions Italy Cup.
