THE STAGE - In the very early stages of the race, Rémi Cavagna (Groupama-FDJ), Thomas Gachignard (TotalEnergies), later joined by Jakub Otruba (Caja Rural) broke away from the group, but the decisive action of the day originated after climbing the Côte des Baux-de-Provence when Visma Lease a Bike - today orphaned by Vingegaard who did not start from Saint-Julien-en-Saint-Alban after yesterday's accident and suffering - with a descent forcing broke the peloton.
At the front, a group of 17 riders formed, composed of the overall leader Matteo Jorgenson, Edoardo Affini, Victor Campenaerts, Per Strand Hagenes, Bart Lemmen, Axel Zingle (Visma Lease a Bike), Thymen Arensman, Tobias Foss, Bob Jungels, Magnus Sheffield, Joshua Tarling, Samuel Watson (INEOS Grenadiers) Maximilian Schachmann (Soudal Quick-Step), Mattias Skjelmose and Mads Pedersen (Lidl – Trek), Matteo Sobrero and Florian Lipowitz (Red Bull - BORA – hansgrohe).
Ten kilometers from the finish, Bart Lemmen dropped back and 16 men remained to fight for the stage victory. After the red triangle, Maximilian Schachmann tried a finisseur move but could do nothing against the group launched at full speed from which Pedersen emerged to win.
The yellow jersey of the leader is still worn by Jorgenson, who has a 40" advantage over Lipowitz and 59" over Skjelmose; Arensman moves up to fourth place, while in the top of the general classification we no longer find Lenny Martinez, yesterday's winner, who today crossed the finish line more than 8'00" behind stage winner Pedersen.
Tomorrow will see the seventh stage of Paris-Nice, which, as announced by the organizers this morning, will undergo route variations due to adverse weather forecasts.
