The Tirreno-Adriatico is currently underway, we're on the eve of Sanremo, but thoughts are already racing towards the Giro d'Italia and the wildcards that have not yet been assigned. Mauro Vegni addressed this issue on RaiSport microphones: «All Grand Tours have asked the UCI to have an additional team, to help grow the movement from the ground up. We would need a more open WorldTour, perhaps with fewer teams and more maneuvering possibilities for the organizers of major events, so they can make both technical and commercial choices. We have already chosen the three teams to which we will attribute the wildcards we have available (thanks to Lotto's withdrawal, which was directly invited, ed.), we obviously have a fourth potential option, we have urged a quick response from the UCI but it seems we'll need to wait until March 26th, when the Professional Cycling Council will meet».
