The fourth edition of the Ponente in Rosa Trophy reserved for Elite riders and scheduled for March 11, 12, 13, 2025 on the roads of Liguria will not take place. This was announced by Piernicola Pesce, president of the Loabikers society, organizer of the competition. The three-day event was set to include an individual time trial in Loano, a stage from Genoa to Borghetto Santo Spirito, and on the final day a stage with start and finish in Diano Marina.
"The race is not happening," exclaims Piernicola Pesce, "and the reason is the lack of funds. We at the Loabikers team have put our heart into it, and some municipalities have shown great collaboration: those of Loano, Borghetto Santo Spirito, and Diano Marina. Additionally, the Marina di Loano has shown significant commitment, guaranteeing us resources. Thanks also to the Liguria Region."
Missing from Piernicola Pesce's list of acknowledgments is the Genoa Municipality: "Unfortunately, Loabikers and the Genoa Municipality did not reach a satisfactory agreement proportionate to the event's importance. We at Loabikers are used to hosting races with girls who have won gold medals at Olympics and World Championships in road, track, and off-road cycling. This year we would have had athletes from 5 continents, guaranteeing tourist promotion. Organizing a race like Ponente in Rosa, with 175 Elite protagonists, means for us paying for food and lodging for at least 450 people for 4 days, not counting all other technical expenses. If certain support is lacking, it's useless to embark on flights of fancy."
