The O Gran Camiño 2025 concludes with Magnus Cort's mark, who, beating Carlos Canal (Movistar) and Giovanni Lonardi (Polti-VisitMalta) in a sprint, achieved an incredible triple victory.
In the general classification, Derek Gee had no problems defending his yellow jersey and thus secured the overall victory ahead of Davide Piganzoli (Polti-VisitMalta) and Magnus Cort Nielsen himself, who finished second and third at 35" and 38" from the Canadian, respectively.
THE RACE REPORT. The stage start was nothing short of fiery with several riders trying to break away from the group with the idea of creating an escape. First attempts came from Martin Marcellusi (VF Group - Bardiani CSF - Faizan), Ikea Mintegi (Euskaltel - Euskadi), Raul Bota (Rádio Popular - Paredes - Boavista), Ander Okamika (Burgos Burpellet BH), Maxine Decomble (Groupama-FDJ), Pedro Silva (Anicolor / Tien 21) and Julen Arriola-Bengola (Caja Rural - Seguros RGA), followed by Mauri Vansevenant (Soudal-Quick Step), Samuel Fernandez (Caja Rural - Seguros RGA) and Josh Burnett (Burgos Burpellet BH) but none managed to make a difference. The third attempt was signed by Remy Rochas (Groupama-FDJ) and Jokin Murguialday (Euskaltel - Euskadi) but they also failed to succeed. Finally, after 35 kilometers, Clement Braz Alfonso (Groupama-FDJ), Fredrik Dversnes (Uno-X), Mats Wenzel (Equipo Kern Pharma), Martin Marcellusi (VF Group - Bardiani CSF - Faizan), Josh Burnett (Burgos Burpellet BH), Nicolas Alustizia (Euskaltel-Euskadi), Rafael Reis (Anicolor/Tien 21), Pedro Pinto Castro (Efapel Cycling) and Asier Pablo Gonzalez (Illes Balears Arabay) managed to break away and quickly gained a 2' lead over the peloton pulled by the yellow jersey's team. After the intermediate sprint in Rois won by Wenzel over Marcellusi, during the first climb of Alto de Lampai, the Italian tried to escape solo but after conquering the mountain prize was caught by Burnett, Dversnes, Braz Alfonso, Alustiza and Wenzel, Gonzalez and Reis, with whom he faced the first three gravel sectors of the Camino de Santiago. During this phase, thanks to the high pace set by Soudal-Quick Step, the group from behind increased its speed, causing the gap to inexorably decrease and almost nullify during the second passage over Alto de Lampai. With the breakaway now within reach, several riders tried to attack: Samuel Fernandez (Caja Rural) and Remy Rochas (Groupama-FDJ) were successful, with the latter proceeding alone after dropping the morning breakaway companions. The Uno-X riders took the lead of the peloton and, at the top of the climb, reduced the disadvantage to the Frenchman to 38 seconds and to the group of attackers to 10 seconds. Descending, the Scandinavian team's riders showed no mercy and ferociously caught both Rochas and his pursuers. With the group compact, the final 12 kilometers began, particularly the last three gravel sectors. At the end of the second, Luca Paletti (VF Group - Bardiani CSF - Faizan) broke away solo from the group and approached the first white road section, but the entire peloton quickly caught up with him. Viktor Soenes (Soudal-Quick Step) and Gee tried to attack, but Uno-X, working for Cort, quickly neutralized their move.
