Romain Gregoire triumphs at the Faun-Ardèche Classic, with start and finish in the French town of Guilherand-Granges. The Groupama FDJ talent conquers victory ahead of German Marco Brenner (Tudor Pro Cycling Team) and the day's main protagonist Lorenzo Fortunato (XDS Astana Team). The Bologna native was the race's standout performer with a solo attack around 25 km from the finish. A dramatic finale for the leading group of twelve, with Ayuso, Mas, and McNulty taking a wrong turn 400 meters from the conclusion. Gregoire takes advantage, accelerates, and raises his arms to the sky celebrating his first victory.
The race featured protagonists Greegard, Poulard, Guillon, Chaussinand, and particularly the trio of Bonneu, Vercher, and Azaparren, who remained in the breakaway in the final stages. On the Mur du Cornas, Lorenzo Fortunato accelerates, creating a gap behind him and gaining about forty seconds on the chasers led by Ayuso, McNulty, Brenner, Gregoire, and Mas. The XDS Astana Team rider's action was effective and fluid, but he was caught with 7 km to go by Mas and subsequently by nine other riders including Scaroni, Skjelmose, and Hirschi.
