Outside the Aumahoro Stadium, the riders have arrived, ready to start the prologue that will award the first yellow jersey of the Tour du Rwanda. Inside the large and modern sports arena, UCI President David Lappartient explains the significance of inaugurating a new WCC satellite center here in Kigali: "We have always said, from our first meetings with Rwandan authorities, that the World Championships should create a lasting legacy, and this will happen with a new training facility to bring more young people from this country and neighboring nations closer to the sport. Satellite centers are part of an ambitious development strategy for 2030".
The UCI President, welcomed by Sports Minister Nelly Mukazayre, adds: "UCI supports 80 percent of WCC center expenses and wants to expand their network. If the world championship will be a strong catalyst of passion here in Kigali, young athletes will find the best conditions in terms of hospitality and technical support. Let me add that we continue our convinced collaboration with the United Nations, thanks to which we brought two refugee athletes to the Olympics. The implementation is extended to all five continents".
The presence at Amahoro Stadium of Jazzilla Mwamikazi, 20 years old, currently a cyclist at the Aigle WCC center, is not just a photo opportunity: "Participating in the Games fulfilled a dream. I continue to cultivate ambitions in the sport I began experiencing through my first mountain bike competitions in my Rwandan hometown, earning my place in the team based in Switzerland".
For Jazzilla and other distinguished guests, it's time to go to the starting line: the authorities, including the President of the Republic, Paul Kagame, have lowered the flag for a 2025 edition of the Tour du Rwanda with a preview flavor.
