A post by Jean Francois Quenet, a well-known figure of significant importance in global cycling information, who prefers, by innate nature, not to appear and work behind the scenes, also as a friendly and always available trainer of younger colleagues, announces with heartfelt words shared on the web the passing of his friend, colleague and French compatriot, JACQUES AUGENDRE, an authoritative journalist and refined cycling enthusiast for decades.
Born in Paris, the elegant Jacques Augendre was born in the French capital on April 28, 1925, and passed away yesterday at the beautiful age of 99 in the Paris region.
In his youth, following in his father's footsteps, he first tried cycling and then moved on to writing for important media outlets such as the prestigious Le Monde, a news daily, L'Equipe, Midi Libre, and specialized periodicals like Miroir du Cyclisme, Miroir Sprint, and the monthly Le Cycle.
In his retirement years, he carefully managed various activities of the French sports daily's archive, with skill, knowledge, and respect for the truth of the facts.
He holds the "record" of Tour de France followed, a remarkable 50. Only Jacques Goddet, patron and journalist, beat him with 53 appearances.
To use a cycling paraphrase, we can only say "Too bad he punctured just before the 100-year finish line".
