On the Spanish gravel roads, Michal Kwiatkowski's wheel emerges triumphant in today's Clásica Jaén, with start and finish in Ubeda, Andalusia. The Ineos Grenadiers Polish rider, who hadn't won since the Tour de France stage at Gran Colombier on July 14, 2013, takes a decisive solo victory in a grueling race, beating a brilliant Isaac Del Toro (UAE Team Emirates XRG) and the surprising Spanish rider Ibon Ruiz.
The winning move involved McNulty (UAE Team Emirates XRG), who was later eliminated by a puncture on the ninth gravel section 14 km from the finish, Kwiatkowski (Ineos Grenadiers), and Ruiz (Equipo Kern Pharma), who were the protagonists of a very long breakaway. Bernal, Turner, Laurance, Swift, Arrieta, Del Toro, Tulett, Fagundez, and Labrosse were in pursuit. In the finale, Del Toro (UAE Team Emirates XRG) attempted to bridge back to Kwiatkowski and Ruiz: the Mexican's action was effective, but he couldn't catch the leaders. Meanwhile, Kwiatkowski dropped Ruiz and was later joined by Del Toro, ultimately securing a solo victory.
