For years, he alternated between football and cycling, two sports he loved deeply. Gabriele De Bari, long-time contributor to the Messaggero newspaper, died yesterday afternoon in Chieti, where he was hospitalized for heart surgery. He was originally from Silvi Marina and would have turned 71 in May.
A professional journalist, he began writing for the newspaper in Via del Tritone in 1972 as a football correspondent, particularly following Lazio's events, becoming a reference point and alternating football trips with the most important national and international cycling races, another sport he deeply loved.
Over the years, he worked in newsrooms in Teramo, Pescara, Chieti, and Viterbo, then moved to the Rome editorial office in March 1988, before returning to Abruzzo and his beloved Pescara, just before retirement, where he lived with his wife Paola and sons Francesco and Simone.
Direct and straightforward, he was highly appreciated by his readers and many enthusiasts who followed him on local TV shows (particularly Rete 8) for his ability to get to the heart of even the most delicate issues without beating around the bush.
The funeral will be held tomorrow at 11:30 AM in the San Salvatore church in Silvi. Pescara Calcio also issued a condolence note on their official website: "Delfino Pescara 1936 and President Daniele Sebastiani express their condolences for the passing of journalist Gabriele De Bari. A prominent professional journalist in the Abruzzo and national landscape, he always showed great interest in the white and blue colors with passion and professionalism. We will always remember his warrior spirit and dedication to journalism. Our heartfelt condolences to the family and the profession."
The editorial staff of tuttobiciweb, tuttobicitech, and tuttoBICI embrace with sincere emotion and friendship his wife Paola and sons Simone and Francesco.
