We have entered the hot phase of the 101st Coppa San Geo-55th Trofeo Caduti Soprazocco-Memorial Attilio Necchini-Giancarlo Otelli. The organizing committee has launched the official program of the event. The official presentation is confirmed for Friday, February 14th at the Sullivan Restaurant in Ponte San Marco: the appointment is set for 7:30 PM. Gianni Pozzani, Luigi Borno, and Rudy Zucca, who form the trio leading the organization, are putting the final touches on the first official phase of the competition that always delivers technical, competitive, and spectacular highlights. The start list is almost decided at this point.
On Tuesday, February 4th, the three musketeers will meet again to make the final selection, although their ideas are very clear. However, they wanted to take a few more days before confirming the participation of around thirty clubs chosen for this edition of the amateur cycling opening race. Among the forty teams that have requested to participate, there are also some foreign teams that have been protagonists on Brescia roads for years.
The list of teams does not include some that have made the history of amateur cycling, particularly the Milano-Sanremo for amateurs, because they have closed down. "We are very sorry not to have Named, Onec, Zalf Fior, Ctf Friuli, and Hopplà Petroli Firenze Don Camillo at the start - say Pozzani-Borno-Zucca -. Unfortunately, they have decided to lower the shutters, and we are very sorry not only for our race but for cycling in general. Their technicians and riders have always behaved very well and have left a beautiful memory. We hope that some manager or technician will still be present at the race to embrace and thank them for being protagonists in our race".
For the sake of chronicle, we recall that the last winner Bryan Olivo won the Centenary edition with the Ctf Friuli jersey. Zal Fior has obtained two victories over the years with Matteo Frutti (1997) and Enrico Zanoncello (2020); two silver medals with Nicola Boem (2012) and Giovanni Lonardi (2018); three bronze medals with Sacha Modolo (2008), Sonny Colbrelli (2011), Nicolas Marini (2014). All riders who later successfully transitioned to professional ranks. Especially Modolo and Colbrelli have marked some prestigious events, and naturally, the organizers, always attentive to the events of the top category, are more than satisfied to have had them at the start of their event, an authentic pass to paradise.
