The news has recently emerged that the classic junior race, the Dino Diddi Cup born in Ponte alla Trave in the province of Pistoia in 1948, which has been held in Agliana for many years and is now in its 77th edition, might not take place in 2025. The concern has been expressed by G.S. Dino Diddi's president Maurizio Mangoni, general director of the organization Franco Vettori, and the entire group working with passion and commitment to this wonderful race that attracts 200 juniors at the start, including all the strongest in the category, and a massive crowd, traditionally held on the first Sunday in September, which this year falls on the 7th. On the same day, the Gran Premio Industria e Artigianato for professionals is held in Larciano, and the Dino Diddi Cup covers a significant portion of the same Pistoia roads and the Vinci area as the Larciano race. Hence, the impossibility of running the race in the presence of the professional event, and consequently, the Provincial Committee of Pistoia's Cycling Federation has requested a change of route or date. Faithful to the tradition of the route and the canonical date on the first Sunday in September, the Agliana managers have frowned, appearing sorry and perplexed, but still willing to sit at a table with all interested parties.
"We do not accept any a priori exclusion," says Franco Vettori. "Let's meet and see if we can find a solution. If not, thank you anyway, and the Dino Diddi Cup will, with deep regret, not be held." At this point, there are two solid alternatives. A route change staying on this side of Montalbano, or a date change for the Diddi Cup, and with the necessary authorization from the competent technical bodies, its running on Saturday, September 6th, on the eve of the Larciano GP. In any case, a meeting with all interested parties becomes fundamental, with the hope that a solution can be found at the table, especially since we add that in the coming years, the coincidence of the two races could occur again.
