In 2025, we won't see him in the Professional group. After three years with the Team Corratec jersey, Marco Murgano has chosen to get off the saddle and start putting others in the saddle. The 26-year-old from Chiavari, fourth-placed at the Tour of Qinghai Lake 2023, and protagonist of long breakaways that showcased him during UAE Tour and Milano-Torino this year, has agreed to tell his story to tuttobiciweb's microphones and reveal his future projects.
Marco, is a chapter closing?
"Yes. The team didn't confirm me and I'm ready to turn the page. I managed to realize a beautiful dream, the one that all children have when they start cycling: I raced as a Professional alongside great champions in important races. Thanks to the bicycle, I traveled the world, met many people, and had many experiences, but now it's time to stop. I'm leaving, but I'm at peace."
Didn't you get any opportunity to continue?
"I knew this could be my last year among the Pros. Perhaps I could have found other teams, maybe Continental, but I preferred to focus on what will be my new activity." What will you do? "I'll start working as a biomechanist, collaborating with my friend Patrick Nastasi who has a studio here in Chiavari. I won't be in the group anymore, but I'll always be around bikes to help competitive and amateur cyclists sit well in the saddle. I'm already getting familiar with the new job, it's stimulating, and I'm convinced that with my experience as an athlete, I can be helpful."
Before turning professional, you went through all the youth categories
"About fifteen years ago, I started with G.S. Levante, then moved to Casano where I stayed until the end of my second year as a Junior. As an Under, I raced with Viris, then Maltinti and Petroli Firenze – Hopplà until reaching Corratec. I owe a big thank you to the Sports Directors and Managers of all these teams. But my biggest thanks go to my family." What lesson did cycling give you? "I learned to live. To make sacrifices and fight to achieve goals."
The most complicated moment of your career?
"The Covid year. A definitely difficult period."
The most beautiful moment?
"Participating in this year's Milano – Sanremo. A unique emotion."
Do you have any regrets?
"No regrets. I know I always gave 100%. As I said, I'm serene and happy with what I've done and what cycling has given me." New Year's Eve is approaching, will you start 2025 with a bike ride? "
We'll see on New Year's Day. What's certain is that I'll continue to pedal to stay in shape, maybe with more tranquility and not necessarily in the rain and cold (laughs)."
