Spanish cycling looks to the future and its talented young riders. Two names in particular are attracting the attention of enthusiasts and professional team technicians increasingly focused on fishing in the sea where the best juniors navigate. These are Pericas and Freire who next year will be part of the UAE Team Emirates Gen Z development squad of Pogacar's World Tour team.
Adrià Pericas (photo) is the most talked-about name. He comes from the Team Torrent-Tadesan-Purito and in 2024 has obtained 16 victories at national and international levels, proclaiming himself Spanish time trial champion in the junior category. He has won valuable stage races such as the Vuelta al Besaya, the Vuelta a la Montaña Central, the GP FWR Baron in Italy, the GP de Les Franqueses and the Vuelta a la Subbética. Likewise, he has represented the colors of his nation at the Eroica in Italy, the Tour du Pays de Vaud in Switzerland - where he finished second - the Valromey Tour in France and, above all, the World Championships in Zurich, closing in the top-20 in both the time trial and the road race.
For his part, Marcos Freire is the son of Oscar (three-time world champion, three-time Milan-San Remo winner) and comes from the Bathco Cycling Team, with which he has obtained a dozen victories in two years with juniors, including the Vuelta a Valladolid, the Carballo Challenge and the GP El Baruco. Additionally, he has represented the Iberian national team in races such as Paris-Roubaix, the Grand Prix Guido Reybrouck and the Nations Cup event in Hungary.
