ANNA VAN DER BREGGEN RETURNS: WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP IN RWANDA IN SIGHT?

What if Anna Van Der Breggen tries to win her fourth world championship? No joke, because we are more serious than ever. What was a pure utopia just 6 months ago is not only becoming a possibility, but practically a certainty destined to ignite the hearts of fans and worry her rivals.

At the end of 2021, the Dutch champion had hung up her bike after a practically perfect career rich with triumphs and prestigious medals that would make anyone jealous. Two world titles on the road, one in time trial, Olympic gold in Rio 2016, 4 Giri d'Italia, 2 Liège Batogne Liege and 7 consecutive victories at the Flèche Wallonne, just to mention some of Anna Van Der Breggen's successes who, starting from 2022, climbed aboard the SD Worx team car. Despite her good results as a sport director, those roles always felt a bit tight, and soon the desire, or rather the need, to pin a number on her back returned. As we told you a few months ago, the Dutch rider at the age of 34 had announced her return to racing starting from January 2025 with a two-year contract and the project to return to high levels.

We haven't even had time to witness her return to racing and Anna seems to have already made her goals clear. These days, through Instagram stories, she told to her followers the reconnaissance of a very particular route: the 2025 World Championships in Rwanda. Alongside the champion, dressed head to toe in the Dutch uniform, there were Wilbert Broekhuizen and Koos Moerenhout, the national team technicians who ride through the traffic of Kigali, the capital, among cars and many scooters.

The World Championship in Rwanda are still far away, the first in history on the African continent, but it seems that Anna Van Der Breggen doesn't want to waste any time. The world event will take place from September 21 to 28 and approximately the women's road race should be on Saturday 27th with a route that will be quite challenging. The Dutch selection is already positioning itself as the number one contender, hunting for revenge after two years in which they had to surrender to the Belgian dominance of Lotte Kopecky, and the work has already begun. But at this point, one wonders who the National Team will truly rely on and if a peaceful coexistence will be possible between Anna Van Der Breggen and her direct rival Demi Vollering.

Ci mancava pure la Van der Breggen a creare scompiglio nella nazionale olandese. Si correranno le une contro le altre come al solito.
