Andrey Amador officially announced his retirement from professional cycling. At 38 years old, the Costa Rican from EF Education Easypost closes a professional career that began in 2009 with Caisse d'Epargne. After the Spanish experience, in 2020 he moved to the British Ineos and in the last two seasons he joined Jonathan Vaughters' team.
Amador was the protagonist of a difficult last season, with only ten race days and his last appearance at the Tour de Romandie. "After a career rich in challenges and satisfaction, I announce that I will retire from professional cycling. For me, this has been a difficult year, full of injuries and accidents that prevented me from cycling at the level I'm used to. It was not an easy decision, it was not planned, but there are moments when listening to our body and taking care of our health becomes the priority. Throughout my career, I have had the honor of representing Costa Rica in the most prestigious international competitions, achieving results I never would have imagined, from the victory in stage 14 of the Giro d'Italia in 2012 to the Pink Jersey in 2016. I dedicate everything I have done to Costa Rica and my family. I will always remain connected to this sport that I love, Icarry with me indelible memories and the satisfaction of having given my best in every race".
