The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) has announced that the disciplinary procedure initiated against Dutch cyclist Jan-Willem van Schip, in relation to his behavior after Commissaires informed him of his relegation from the men's elimination race at the Tissot UCI Track World Championships 2024, has been completed.
In response to the Commissaires' decision to relegate him from the race, Mr. van Schip made indecent and highly expressive gestures while leaving the track.
This behavior, which was carried out in a public place and in direct reaction to a Commissaires' decision, was considered a violation of Articles 12.4.010 and 12.4.017(d) of the UCI Regulations, resulting in a suspension from December 27, 2024, to February 1, 2025 (inclusive) and the payment of a fine.
These sanctions are in addition to the disqualification and fine imposed by the Commissaires for the rider's behavior following the initial decision of relegation for deviation. Mr. van Schip has fully cooperated with the proceedings and acknowledged the violation of the UCI Regulations.
