A grand celebration was held at the "Why Center" in Schio, in the province of Vicenza, for the highly anticipated official presentation of the VPT WhySport - Veneto Project Team, the new cycling team from the Venice province dedicated to Elite and Under 23 riders, with headquarters in Cazzago di Pianiga, in the Venetian area.
The project for creating the club, the only one in the Venice province focusing on these two categories, was born thanks to the initiative of the Santello family, already actively involved in the Veneto cycling scene. It aims to develop young athletes by offering them a high-profile technical, human, and sporting context. At the helm of the association are Paolo Santello, an athletic trainer and long-time sports director, his sons Andrea (President) and Matteo (Sports Director), along with General Manager Gianluca Mengardo, a former Continental category cyclist.
The presentation evening, hosted by sports commentator and Rai-Sport analyst Giada Borgato, was attended by numerous guests, cycling enthusiasts, and industry professionals. The inaugural greeting was delivered by Stefano Pieropan, owner of the WhySport brand and main team sponsor, who emphasized the importance of supporting youth projects based on solid sporting values. Among the guests were Andrea Ferrigato, a long-time professional with a Giro victory and an extraordinary palmares, and Marco Trentin, team manager of the Wilier-Vittoria Mtb Factory Team.
During the evening, the ten athletes of the lagoon team participating in the new 2025 competitive season were officially presented, including the Elite rider Andrea Busatto and nine Under 23 cyclists selected for their commitment and potential. Among the latter, Alessio and Daniele Babolin, Marco Demattè, Paolo Festini Sughi, Alessio Gerotto, Hakim Younes, and Manuel Loss stand out. The latter gifted the Venetian club with an extraordinary second place at the Castello Roganzuolo race in the Treviso area, at the 23rd Gran Premio De Nardi. Also part of the team are Gabriel Maldonado Tupac and Filippo Romani.
For the occasion, the three Sports Directors were also introduced: Damiano Albertin, Aldo Borgato, and Andrea Caco; true pillars of the project with years of experience across all competitive categories. The VPT WhySport - Veneto Project Team also distinguishes itself with a 360-degree approach to athlete development, promoting discipline, passion, and personal growth through sport. The choice of team colors - green, white, and red - reflects the project's identity and commitment to being visible, both inside and outside competitions.
With this new reality, the Veneto and Venice territory gains a solid and competent structure, ready to offer new opportunities in youth competitive cycling. "A heartfelt thanks," the association's directors stated while greeting those present, "goes to the sponsors who participated in the event: Fabio Franzin, representing Croma Gio.Batta Srl, Andrea Bozzolan of Bozzolan & Santello, and Marco Gaule of New Life Solution Sas".
