Lidl-Trek's decision to race with SRAM's 1x RED XPLR AXS transmission was not even on the horizon when the team's technical support manager Glen Leven started testing it on his Trek Checkmate along the gravel roads of Luxembourg last August, a test that generated much more than just good feelings. The route, although scaled down, represented what could be encountered in races like Paris-Roubaix, and the bike reacted more than positively.
