The route begins immediately with a climb up Forca della Civita: it's a long but not particularly demanding ascent, which could however serve as an ideal launching pad for breakaway riders. The other climb of the day, Valico La Crocetta, has similar characteristics. From Ovindoli, the descent begins leading to the Fucino plain and the final part of the race, which is completely flat.
In Trasacco, riders will pass under the finish line before tackling a circuit of about 14 km to be completed twice. The circuit consists of perfectly straight roads connected by right-angle turns. The passage through the city center is slightly more complex, preceding a finish on asphalt ideal for a sprint - provided the sprinters' teams can keep the day's attackers in check.
