In Cittiglio, the KMGREEN project was inaugurated, conceived and curated by the students of the schools in Alfredo Binda's hometown, with the support of Cycling Sport Promotion and the Municipal Administration. This is a 1 km bicycle path segment starting from Cittiglio and leading to Laveno.
In the future, children and teenagers from Cittiglio schools, thanks to their experience in the Green School project, will explain how it is possible to apply good practices in everyday life to have a lower environmental impact and promote the well-being of all Earth's inhabitants.
"We will discover together that you don't need to completely change your life, but change the WAY of doing things" - explains Roberta Tagliati, primary school teacher in Cittiglio. "Soon we will create podcasts where we will not only discuss good practices but also share curiosities and interviews with people who have been and will be significant in our Green School journey. In other words, 1 km that will spark the curiosity of those who travel it. Next year, we will install poles with QR codes linked to various podcast episodes we have created. They will cover the following topics: Waste, Water, Biodiversity, Energy, Sustainable Mobility, Food Waste. But we won't stop here; we'll try to enrich this km by involving local realities through meetings starting from October. By scanning the QR code on the initial board, you can already listen to our first podcast explaining the project to people. We want to reach as many people as possible, intending to spread sustainability seeds throughout the town. Our dream is that in the various towns along the bicycle path, there will be a GREEN KM. For this reason, when our km is complete, it will be a model that can be exported and reproduced, customized according to the local context, but always with sustainability as the main theme."
Mayor Rossella Magnani adds: "The Municipal Administration of Cittiglio is happy to support school projects because everything starts with the young people who are the future of our town. Every project that brings them closer to the environment, sustainability, and good habits is an important project that must be supported and developed together."
In addition to the mayor, Mario Minervino, president of Cycling Sport Promotion, councilor Giovanni D'Angelo, and some representatives of the Cittiglio Civil Protection were present at the inauguration. This initiative is also part of the awareness campaign promoted by the International Cycling Union: "UCI Climate Action Charter", which Cycling Sport Promotion has supported since its inception.
