Just like in the first edition held in 2022, Magnus Cort Nielsen conquered the opening stage of the O Gran Camiño, wearing the yellow leader's jersey. As in that circumstance, this time too the Dane prevailed over the competition by leveraging his sprint ability, a skill that today, on the fourth day of his 2025 season, earned him his 32nd career victory.
"It's fantastic to win again here, and it's always special to win in the first stage while wearing the first yellow leader's jersey. It's practically a success that's worth double," the experienced Scandinavian rider declared after the awards ceremony.
"I knew that on days like today, when the team works all day for me, I had good chances, but there's a difference between knowing what you need to do to win and actually doing it. So I find it really nice to make a result when your teammates pave the way for you, as happened today. The finish? I had never been here before, but of course, I studied it on Google Street View and VeloViewer. I knew the road was more or less straight, slightly downhill, and had a slight 'S' curve, and I had imagined what could happen and what we would need to do. We succeeded, and I'm very happy," Cort continued, who suffered from some vomiting attacks immediately after celebrating with his teammates.
"I think it's simply because I gave everything, really scraping out all the energy I had, and my stomach felt the effects," explained the 1993 class rider from Rønne, ready to sacrifice himself for the yellow-red cause if he cannot keep up with the best in the next stages.
"I'll try to keep the jersey, but I don't think it will be easy. We also have other important cards to play and a really competitive roster not just for stages like tomorrow, but in general for the entire race," Cort concluded.
