She is registered with the Continental team Liv AlUla Jayco, is twenty years old and has plenty of talent; her name is Lucinda Stewart, and she has just been crowned Australian national champion (elite and U23) after being in a long breakaway.
Originally from Melbourne, Lucinda beat Perth's Ella Simpson, a 22-year-old registered with the French team St Michel - Preference Home - Auber93, and local favorite Cassia Boglio, racing with the Swan Drafting club. Also playing key roles in the race's action were Katelyn Nicholson (Butterfields Ziptrack Racing) and Sophia Sammons (Praties Cycling Team), who finished in fourth and fifth positions.
2'06" behind the young winner were the new Australian criterium champion Amber Pate (Liv Alula Jayco) and Amanda Spratt (Lidl-Trek), while the main peloton, led by Sarah Roy (EF), arrived over 4'00" later.
WORDS FROM THE AUSTRALIAN CHAMPION - "I don't know what to say, I'm truly proud to race in these colors. I admire these girls so much, my teammates, I respect them and know how strong they are. I knew I had to make it for Liv AlUla Jayco and that there was no option other than winning. I'm incredibly happy. I knew the team had faith in me and I really wanted to succeed for them. I wanted Amber Pate to be in the breakaway because I know how strong she is, but it's so special to get this victory. I'm proud to have pulled it off. On Tuesday, I'm leaving for Europe for the team's training camp, I'll meet all my teammates and it will be very special to wear this jersey."
