IRMA SIRI. «READY TO DEBUT AMONG THE ELITE, I HAVE MANY DREAMS BUT FIRST... THE FINAL EXAM»

Miss Sympathy is ready to launch into the grand ball of debutantes with the Top Girls - Fassa Bortolo look. The jump from junior to elite is the most delicate category shift for cycling girls.
The Ligurian Irma Siri, with her attentive dark eyes, brown hair, debuts in the elite team of patron Lucio Rigato and team manager Matteo Busato. Except for particular cases, in women's cycling the under-23 category is as if it didn't exist. The former junior Irma tackles the most challenging step with great serenity and the awareness of having chosen the right jersey.
"Towards the end of the 2024 season, I received many offers from Italian teams – Irma reveals, who lives in Vallecrosia with mom Elena, dad Pierangelo, a bar owner, and brothers Giorgio and Francesco – and there was also interest from abroad. I chose Top Girls Fassa Bortolo because I consider it a fantastic environment for girls who need to grow. Patron Lucio Rigato has created a family atmosphere, giving considerable tranquility to the athletes." Irma Siri attends her fifth year of scientific high school in Bordighera.
She was born in Sanremo on September 22, 2006: the day and month are a guarantee for cabala and zodiac sign enthusiasts, namely the birth date of stars like Beppe Saronni and Ronaldo "the Phenomenon". However, the new Top Girl does not launch into high-flying dreams. Above all, she doesn't think only about the bike: "School is important to me, and this year I will face the scientific final exam. The final exam is an appointment where I want to give my best. Until June, I will think a lot about school, and it's one of the reasons why I chose Top Girls Fassa Bortolo as my team. Of course, I will also commit myself a lot in training and races."
Irma is not the daughter of a professional cyclist. "My dad played football for many years in amateur teams - Irma explains, a girl initially into multiple sports -. I practiced disciplines I really liked: tennis, swimming, and even running. Then the love for the bike prevailed." Her cycling career started very early, at the age of 6 with the Ciclistica Bordighera jersey. In youth categories, she always won, demonstrating versatility. For example, as a beginner, she triumphed in the Guerciotti Cyclocross Trophy at the Idroscalo in Milan. She always achieved success on the track and on the road. In 2023, as a junior with Valcar, she triumphed in the Racconigi road classic and the team time trial national championship. On the track, she became European Team Pursuit Champion. In 2024, as a member of Conscio-Pedale del Sile on the road, she only obtained successes in time challenges: 3 individual time trial victories, plus one in the team time trial. She was highly anticipated at the Italian Individual Time Trial Championship: she had to settle for second place, also due to the wind that did not blow uniformly for all competitors throughout the race. Regarding the team pursuit, in 2024 Irma finished third at the European and World Championships.
"I am very happy with my 2024 season. I define myself as a fast rouleur, I dream of triumphing in the classics." Irma would like to emulate several athletes. "As a fast rouleur, I greatly respect my neighbor Ilaria Sanguineti, who has also gained significant international recognition. Regardless of attitudes, my special idol is Demi Vollering."
Probably in 2025, Irma will also have the opportunity to race alongside Vollering, Vos, and other Italian and foreign champion athletes. "Especially for the most important international races, I will still need to earn my starting spot: in Top Girls Fassa Bortolo, we are all important girls." The team is directed by Treviso native Matteo Busato, who as a rider became Italian Elite Road Champion in Sicily in 2011.
"I have great confidence in Matteo." Among the first seasonal appointments for elite cycling girls are the Trofeo Ponente in Rosa stage race, from March 11 to 14, which Top Girls will definitely participate in. In past editions, Irma was a spectator in some stages. "It's the race on my training roads. Being an international race, it won't be easy for me to secure a starting spot." Top Girls Fassa Bortolo has good chances of participating in Milan-Sanremo, another home race for Irma, and the Trofeo Binda in Cittiglio. "In the future, I would like to be a major protagonist in both. Without exaggerating my dreams, it would be nice to compete in them even in my first year as an under-23, school permitting."
