It's a tradition that continues over time, the Christmas dinner of the Unione Sportiva Pontedecimo that closes the sports season, but above all announces the new one. In 2025, there are no shortage of novelties, with the 86th edition of the Giro dell'Appennino, scheduled for Sunday, June 24, this year adding the Giro dell'Appennino Women Elite. The best way to celebrate the patron saint of Genoa, Saint John the Baptist. It was inevitable that the dinner would take on a pink hue. Especially with the presence of Norma Gimondi, who received the Appennino Rosa from Gabriella Persegona.
A recognition not only for being the daughter of the unforgettable Felice, who won the U.S. Pontedecimo race twice, in 1969 and 1972, but above all for the commitment shown through the "Gimondi Camp" that involves children from 5 to 12 years old, including those with disabilities, during the summer period.
Besides Gimondi and Persegona, who at the helm of Tre Colli continues the cycling commitment of her unforgettable husband Tarcisio, other women were present. As highlighted by Simona Ferro, recently confirmed Sports Assessor of the Liguria Region: "By a strange astrological circumstance" today in Genoa, sports is led by two women, Ferro in Piazza De Ferrari and Alessandra Bianchi, Sports Assessor of the Municipality of Genoa.
To complete the female lineup, Edita Pucinskaite could not be missing. She boasts an enviable palmares of two Giro d'Italia victories (2006/2007), a Tour de France (1998), and a world championship jersey (1999). Pucinskaite had launched the Appennino Rosa last year. Since we're talking about the world championship, Lorenzo Mark Finn could not be missing, a boy with unique charisma on whom rests the responsibility of a good part of the Italian cycling future. He has clear ideas, not just in the saddle, but also in front of the microphone: "First, think about pedaling and don't get big-headed". Between one course and another, there was still time for journalist Paolo Colombo to hand over to the Pontedecimo managers the signature sheet of two Giro d'Italia stages, 2014 and 2019 editions, which will enrich the imminent Pontedecimo Cycling Museum. That signature sheet that everyone hopes will soon bear Finn's name. Given the presence of so many women, Genoa's Ambassador to the World Angelo Gnecco and Paolo Corsiglia from the Genoa Chamber of Commerce presented a bouquet of flowers to Gimondi, Ferro, and Bianchi. It was impossible to mention all the guests, including the ever-lively Giuseppe Perletto and Faustino Coppi. In 2025, the 70th anniversary will be celebrated of the great Fausto Coppi's last victory in a line race, in Pontedecimo, on September 18, 1955, wearing the Bianchi jersey. The U.S. Pontedecimo once again confirms itself as a cohesive society with a consolidated and experienced group of managers, among whom stand out President Enrico Costa and Secretary Fabio Barbieri, who distributed prizes to those present.
