Jonathan Milan has achieved a feat that no one had ever accomplished before: he is the first rider in the history of Oscar tuttoBICI to win the title in both the Professional and Young categories. In the Fondazione Molteni Grand Prix reserved for professionals, the Friulian giant from Lidl Trek beat young Antonio Tiberi and Italian champion Alberto Bettiol, with Diego Ulissi and Giulio Ciccone completing the top five.
"It's a fantastic emotion, a great joy for me who had never won this award: being the best professional in Italy fills me with pride and gives me a sense of responsibility, but... I have broad shoulders" Milan confesses, who will be the brightest star at the Oscar tuttoBICI Night on Thursday evening.
Milan's success comes at the end of a beautiful road season, enriched by eleven victories, and equally important on the track with the Olympic bronze and the extraordinary world record (with title) in pursuit of 3.59.153.
"Only when things settled down, calmly, did I realize what I did in Ballerup. That day I felt like one with my bicycle and had all my teammates cheering for me: the most beautiful prize for a perfect moment".
And to think that there were all the ingredients to lose one's mind: in qualification, the Englishman Josh Charlton had taken the world record from Ganna...
For the complete interview with the king of Italian cycling, we'll see you in the December issue of our digital magazine tuttoBICI.
