After Casper Pedersen in 2023 and Remco Evenepoel last year, the winner of the Figueira Champions Classic is Antonio Morgado. The 21-year-old Portuguese rider from UAE Team Emirates – XRG celebrates on his home roads, finishing 20" ahead of the group after 199 kilometers that provided excitement and also saw Filippo Ganna in a solo breakaway for about thirty kilometers.
The day's breakaway was composed of Portuguese riders Rafael Reis (Anicolor), João Medeiros (Credibom) and André Ribeiro (GI Group Holding) along with a Spanish quintet formed by Delio Fernández (APHotels & Resorts), Javier Ibañez (Caja Rural - Seguros RGA), Nil Gimeno (Equipo Kern Pharma), Nicolás Alustiza (Euskaltel – Euskadi), Jorge Gálvez (Aviludo - Louletano – Loulé).
The eight attackers' action ended fifty kilometers from the finish, shortly after the second of three passages over the Rua Parque Florestal climb, mainly thanks to the forcing by Tudor. Several attacks followed: first Alaphilippe tried, and then, with more conviction, Ganna. The Italian time trial champion forced his rivals to chase him, crested first at the second King of the Mountains point of Enforca Cães, and entered the final zone with the last lap bell with a 30" advantage, which he further increased in the subsequent kilometers.
Approaching the final climb of Rua Parque Florestal, with twenty-one kilometers to go, António Morgado (UAE Team Emirates – XRG) launched his pursuit of Ganna, caught and passed him to take the lead. Chasing the home rider were Danish rider Mikkel Frølich Honoré (EF Education – EasyPost) and Basque rider Jon Agirre (Euskaltel – Euskadi), closely followed by the peloton.
