She is one of the new faces at UAE Team ADQ, one of the six Italian athletes making up the World Tour roster of the Emirati formation for the 2025 season. Greta Marturano is eager to start her adventure with the new jersey and, reached by phone by tuttobiciweb in the Spanish training camp where she is preparing for the upcoming competitive season with her new teammates, tells us clearly: "I'm happy to have arrived at UAE Team ADQ. Obviously, this is a new environment for me, but from the start, I felt at ease. There's a fairly large Italian group in the team. This is a first difference compared to my previous team where I was the only Italian athlete. Even the way of working is different, here I feel 'at home'".
After racing for Team Michela Fanini and spending several seasons with Top Girls Fassa Bortolo under Lucio Rigato, Greta flew to Belgium in 2023 to join the Fenix-Deceuninck, for whom she also raced in 2024. Speaking about the last sporting year, in which she was competing for only thirty-two days, nearly reaching the top 10 in the Flèche Wallonne Féminine won by Niewiadoma and finishing ninth in the Italian Championship, Marturano declares: "It was a season of ups and downs. I did well in the Ardennes, but the second part of the year was not easy. I retired in the last stage of the Giro d'Italia Women and had some physical problems. Fortunately, knowing I was joining UAE Team ADQ helped me, gave me new motivation and kept me focused on new goals. Of course, I treated myself to a few vacation days which I spent on a cruise, but now I'm ready and charged to start the new adventure".
And the new professional challenges for the 26-year-old athlete from Lario will start soon: "After the holidays, I'll pack my bag and fly to Australia, where my 2025 season will begin," Greta tells us. Then she adds: "The main objective for me in these first races will be to find the right feeling with my new teammates in the race".
It's too early to know what other commitments are on Marturano's agenda (the team is defining the details of each athlete's calendar, ed.) but when we ask her about her favorite race, she responds without hesitation: "I dream of winning a stage at the Giro".
When it comes to the Giro Rosa, Elisa Longo Borghini is the expert, this year's winner and "new entry" at UAE Team ADQ. We prompt Greta on the topic and, in this case too, the response comes quickly: "Elisa is a great champion, I'm sure she will teach me a lot. I'm shy, I don't talk much, but I observe a lot and try to learn as much as possible from everyone".
